What are some helpful resources for learning Chinese characters? I want to be able to type in Chinese so I can send text messages or emails, so handwriting isn't really a priority for me. I am interested in resources that will help me memorize character meanings. I have a "Chineasy" book which is great but I'd like to supplement it with something else. Any ideas?

At the moment, the phone app Skritter is the best resource I know for memorizing individual characters. It makes you write them, which isn’t what you asked for, but the muscle memory involved in writing can hugely improve your visual recognition of characters. Lingq is another great resource: you read native texts, and highlight the words you don’t recognize, and an algorithm then decides when to show them to you again

Hi, exercise everyday and you're fine. Memorizing ability comes from your aquaintance with writing, I suppose. Dirty tricks have short legs. Archchinese.com is my resource. But the best resource is the will to communicate. Bye ---------------------- EDIT I suggest you to take a course and start your long Chinese journey. Characters on their own is fancy thing but... If you want to have a decent chat, you are supposed to attempt a Chinese language... Had few ideas, you can have a look at "Mandarin for beginners" at Coursera. It's in pinyin. I had a hard time translating each word but now I take notes directly in Mandarin. If you want, this is a way. ciao

Heisig + Anki + Pleco. Pay once for each. No subscriptions. Here's how I used them: https://www.italki.com/discussion/182323
