The higher part of a theatre, is it called the gallery? The gods? I need to write a complaint about the lack of good sound at the top of a theatre. However I think you cannot say at the top. There may be a proper name for that. It is a formal letter. My attempt; The audience seated on the higher seats/ the gallery, were not able to listen properly because the sound was not loud enough. And it became worse after some noise people made. Thank you

Which country are you in that will make a small difference. Or you can look at your tickets, or find the theatre on the internet and search for a seating plan, then match your position to the plan. Option two just give your seat number from the ticket. British perspective. Could be. upper circle, balcony, gallery, dress circle, royal box. "the gods" = the very highest level of seating or where the V.I.P.S, or royalty usually sit. It is not an official term you will find on any ticket or theatre plan, of most theatres. see this guide for London theatres. https://theatre.london/theatre-guide/beginners-guide-sit-theatre/

Raised seating in a theater is called a gallery or a balcony. The gods seems to be a British English term that may or may not be standard that refers to the highest galleries or balconies in a theater. I would probably just say "the upper galleries" or "the upper balconies."

I believe you are referring to the Upper Gallery. In the US, this uppermost balcony of a theater would usually be called the upper gallery. Upper balcony is also understandable. However, the name of this section varies according to the theater. Is there a map of the theater online where you can check to see what the proper name is? Ticketmaster generally has maps of venues for their ticketed events. The theater website might also have a map. If you cannot check online, you could call the theater and check. Good luck!

Hi Emarbe, I think it depends on the theatre, perhaps? Most commonly in Australia we call the highest seats at the top the "Dress Circle".

We also use 'the balcony' in Ukrainian.
