"In School" or "At School"?
Dear English Speakers,
I read an interesting article on the usage of "in school" and "at school".
In AmE, "being in school" means "being a student" (it refers to any kind of education), while "being at school" means "currently being gone to school".
In BrE, "being in school" means "being a pupil" (usually not a university student). While "being at school" can mean either "being a pupil" or "currently being gone to school".
My questions are:
(1) Can I use both phrases to make other sentences, i.e. "I am a teacher at school" or "I am a teacher in a private school"?
(2) Is it common to say "I am in school" which implies "I'm in college" or "I'm at university" in the U.S.?
Thank you for your time and help. I really appreciate it.
