I should not have watched the (television?) series yesterday because I should have been studying for my upcoming exam, but it wasn't easy to resist temptation.

I should not have watched the series yesterday because of my exam, but it wasn't easy to resist the temptation.
I would probably say:
I shouldn't have watched the series yesterday because of my exam, but I couldn't resist the temptation!
