Qestion for US Natives. Do you use the word "tea" as a slang to mean gossip? If so, how often? I was confused because some natives haven't known that slang and some use only that meaning gossip, like: "Have you heard the latest tea about John?"

I've lived all over the country and I have never heard this term in the context of gossip. I will add that I have no social media presence so it is possible it's a thing there.

Lol so I am not sure about what the other gentleman on this post is saying but Tea is ABSOLUTELY used as slang for gossip. However, women typically use this. But yes tea is slang for gossip and it is used all the time in different circles

I have never heard Americans using 'tea' to represent gossip. I have seen in some British television shows where a group of women will gather to have tea with the unspoken understanding that they will share gossip during this tea drinking session.

I live in the UK and know that slang 😆 my friend from America says "spill the tea" however I use the idiom "spill the beans" more. 😊
