It is handy for the train. - You moved recently, didn´t you? What´s your new place like? - Oh, fantastic. It has got all mod cons and it´s handy for the train. I don´t understand what mean the train in this sentence. Thank you in advance.

I have never heard the expression "handy for the train," but it almost certainly means that the train station is nearby and that taking the train to work is more convenient [than from the previous appartment].

"Handy" is a traditional, but common expression here in New Zealand too.
