John said "let’s leave around 6 AM to leave adequate time for traffic."
John said that we should leave around 6 AM to leave adequate time for traffic.

Gary's answers are correct. You could also just simply say
John said we should leave (at) around 6 because of the traffic. (that/AM/leave adequate time/ wouldn't (usually) be needed because of the context)
