Get on Facebook (Meaning) I would like to know the meaning of the expression "to get on Facebook." What is the meaning of the verb "get" in that expression. I wonder if the expression "to get on Facebook" means something like "to use Facebook" or "to register on Facebook." Here is the context: 1. We are trying to maintain our relationship with our people. First, we sent out postcards to everyone in the family, all of our families, saying, "we are thinking of you." Then we got on Facebook for daily advice.

Yep, it means 'to start using facebook'...in the same way you get on with a a job or get on a horse. It's not very formal language

Thanks, Hilary. If I am just talking about VISITING a web site without focusing on logging in because maybe I am already logged in (the browser already saved my credentials), how could I say in that case? Would it still work "go on Facebook"? Could I say "open Facebook" or "go to Facebook"?

To get on Facebook means to join. Once you have joined, then you might 'go on Facebook' to read the posts. In the latter case, 'go on' means to log in and use the platform.
