*verb stem + -는 것 = gerund e.g. 먹다 (to eat) : 먹 (verb stem) + 는 것 = 먹는 것 (eating) 가다 (to go) : 가 (verb stem) + 는 것 = 가는 것 (going) * 은/는 : topic markers noun ending in a consonant + 은 / noun ending in a vowel + 는 e.g. 선생님은 / 저는 - 은/는 is used for a topic of the sentence. (The topic is what you are talking about.) - It could be translated as 'As for -', 'Talking about -' or 'When it comes to-' e.g. 운동하는 것은 중요해요. (When it comes to exercising, it's important. or Talking about exercising, it's important.) 한국어를 배우는 것은 재미있어요. (When it comes to learning Korean, it's interesting.) * 을/를 : object markers noun ending in a consonant + 을 / noun ending in a vowel + 를 을/를 is attached to the object of the verb and it is commonly dropped in speech. e.g. 저는 한국어 공부하는 것을 좋아해요. (As for me, I like studying Korean.) - 공부하는 것 (studying) is the object of the verb '좋아해요'. 제 친구는 쇼핑하는 것을 싫어해요. (As for my friend, he/she dislikes doing shopping.) - 쇼핑하는 것 (doing shopping) is the object of the verb '싫어해요' so '을' is attached to the noun.
