这句话中“也不上了”什么意思? 我的课本有这句话:她快成足球迷了,为看足球课也不上了。 The first part, I understand: She'll soon be a football fan ... But I don't get the second part. I'm translating 为 as "because," but then 看足球 ... "watching football lessons"? Can 看 here take on the meaning "attending"? Nobody watches football lessons. And then, 不上了. I thought it meant a verb was attempted but not achieved, like 裤子穿不上了 -- I couldn't put on my pants. But that doesn't make any sense here: "She'll quickly become a football fan because she won't watch football lessons." The sentence is illogical to me. What am I missing? Is my textbook just weird?

Emmm, you need to break apart as below: “ 为看足球,课也不上了。” = “ 为(了)看足球,也不上(课)了。” “为(了)”means “In order to …” here 也 is for emphasis “不上(课)” not go to school/class, here“课” was placed in the front as a subject. “了” is a modal particle. So the second part means: skipped class to watch football.

Hahha it is not“ 为/看/足球课/也不上了“ but “为/看足球/课也不上了“. It means she skipped class in order to watch football match. “上课”means taking classes. Hope you will find this answer helpful~

Hi Emily, you need to break apart the second part like this: 为看足球/课也不上了. Here 为 means "for", indicating an objective. It's the same as 为了. “课也不上了” is a variation from “不上课” (attend class). To emphasize the action, in Chinese we sometimes put the verb at the end of a sentense. The structure 连......都不...... can be translated as “ even + negative meaning of a verb”. Let me give you more examples: 1.为了准备明天的考试,她今晚连觉都不睡了 To prepare for tomorrow's exam, she doesn't even sleep tonight. Here 连觉都不睡了 is a variation from 不睡觉. 2. 为了减肥,她每天连晚饭都不吃了 To loose weight, she even skips everyday's supper. 连晚饭都不吃了 is a variation from 不吃晚饭. So the translation of the second part can be: To watch football, she even skipped class/she didn't even attend class.
