I agree with Cherry. You have to stress a lot of stereotypes to answer this question (as you would for other countries). Of course, not all Germans are scholars and "brains". Goethe and Schiller should not be taken too serious. Nowadays most Germans would find it quite difficult or boring to read their works. But it can be real fun using some of their phrases in everyday life. "Waluburg's Night"? - I thought of the "Wartburg" - Ah... "Walpurgisnacht". The genuine german equivalent (April 30th) to the american Halloween (October 31th). D., who doesn't like Bratwurst, cabbage, potato. Who isn't blond, blue eyed, cool, distant... Who doesn't visit Oktoberfest or similar events, who doesn't even drink beer. Who thinks football (/soccer) is not necessary. D. has a nice (german) car, washing it twice a year. Knows a little about history. German history, european, chinese. Not only about the years from 1939 (1933) to 1945. D. likes Ritter Sport, but not all types.
