함께(hamgge) and 같이(gachi), are they solely synonyms?? Recently I came across with the term "together", in which it is translated as 함께(hamgge) and 같이(gachi) in Korean. I hereby would like to ask, are these two terms solely synonyms in this sense, or do they have any minor differences (of course, other than the writing and pronunciation :) ?? I wonder this matter, because in most of the other major languages, there is usually just one term in describing "together" --「一緒に」(日本語で), "ensemble" (en français), "zusammen" (auf Deutsch), "juntos" (en español), "insieme" (in italiano), "junto" (en português), and "вме́сте" (по-ру́сски). The only exception is possibly in Chinese (以 中文), where there exist「一起」and「一同」. However, I personally simply use「一起」in most of the occasions, as「一同」tends to be used more in formal writing. To this extent, I would like to ask, if there may be any major differences between the two quoted Korean terms. Many thanks for your kind attention.Thank you very much for your kind attention to my posed question. In particular, I thank all the respondents for their precious answers and suggestions. May I wish you all a nice weekend.

Normally, I use 같이. In a formal situation and formal writing, I'd use 함께. When used in song lyrics, it sounds more lyrical than 같이.
