If you are refering to Ebonics, it is an actual sperate language. Many people think of it as a dialect of American English such as cantonese is a dialect of chinese. It has its own sentence structure and system, however it shares its alphabet and phonetics with English. The vocabulary is the same with some exceptions. It is not slang because in slang there is usually no right or wrong just what is the accepted phrase of the moment while Ebonics does have grammer structure. I understand what it is but cannot speak Ebonics as it is not taught through the school systems. Also another way you might see people refer to Ebonics is African American Vernacular English.
