according to some ooficial statistcs, there are over 80,000 characters. referring to the most frequently used characters in our daily life, there are about 3,500.

Many Chinese characters are not in use today, and some have the same meaning, often use before Qing Dynasty, you can find them in the books at that time. Now in Internet, many Chinese begin to find some interesting words in the past. Such as 囧 槑……So I think one day will make some new Chinese characters.
But how many? No one can know every Chinese characters, maybe no one knows.
