what kind of word? it depends on what kind of word you're trying to imply.
ex: purity ~ pu~ri~ty so there are 3 syllables.

A syllable is a unit of organization for a sequence of speech sounds.
Butterfly has 3 syllables: But-ter-fly. Words like dog, God, cat only have one syllable.

Sound it out or look it up in a dictionary, it will tell you.
