汉语(the Chinese language, Chinese) literally means the language spoken by Chinese Hans(or Han Chinese), including various historical and geographical forms(geographical dialects) ,but, if not specifically indicated, usually refering to Putonghua or Mandarin, the offcial standard modern Chinese languge. 汉语 is also the principal inter-nationality language in China. When we talk about 汉语, we generally mean both its spoken and writing forms, though many dialectal words other than Madarin have no their writing forms. ------------ 中文 literally means China's characters or the characters of Chinese language, but actually we refer with this word to Mandarin, both its spoken and writing forms. Hence there is very slight difference between 汉语 and 中文 in our usual using the two words. ----------------- If we examine further the difference between the two words, we can find that it would lie in the periods when and areas where the two words are used. In another word, 中文 is used more in the past in the whole China or in Hongkong today, and 汉语is more used in the mainland China, while the spoken Mandarin is called 国语 in Taiwan,China. ------------ Undeniably, influenced by the literal meaning of 中文,when we talk about written works, we usually use 中文 other than 汉语, for example, Camel Xiangzi was originally written in Chinese, and Two Mas in English.《骆驼祥子》是用中文写的, 而《二马》最初是用英文写的。
