DO chat with native speakers, watch movies and TV shows and listen to songs. DON'T memorise lists of slang or idioms. They won't tell you when or where to use them, and in most cases their use depends on regions or trends. Learn the expressions as you encounter them in real use.

Just practice speaking like an educated person. Colloquialisms will develop naturally from there.
