Good morning all.
Another week of teaching here in Japan. It’s great fun, however I have noticed how sometimes the language teaching really jumps in levels.
We are about half way through the school year here in Japan and I’ve noticed how for second year junior high students the language level of the grammar being taught has really catapulted. Especially where there are tasks that require grammar that they haven’t studied yet but are about to study, yet we cannot use that grammar until they learn it.
Question fellow to teachers: How do you navigate activities that require a level of grammar that is higher than what the students know and also, how do do you stick to the grammar used?
To students, what do you want to see when you are learning English? Would you prefer the higher grammar to best understand what is the proper way… or keep to the textbook and follow the grammar being used?
Hope everyone has a fab day and keep studying!
