Both words basically mean “greedy.” You can think about the root words to help understand the difference. “Acquisitive” comes from the verb “acquire,” to obtain or buy something. “Avaricious” comes from the noun “avarice,” a strong desire to have a lot of money. An acquisitive company often buys other smaller companies. An avaricious company doesn’t want to pay employees on vacation.
