The main tributaries of the Yangtze (1) : The Hanjiang River
The Hanjiang River, which is the longest tributary of the Yangtze River,is 1577 kilometers long. It originates from Qinling Mountain Range（秦岭山脉）in Shaanxi Province, it passes through 2 provinces:Shaanxi and Hubei. The section in Shaanxi is 657 kilometers long and the section in Hubei is 920 kilometers long.
It has 3 headwaters, all of them are located in Ningqiang County Hanzhong City(汉中市宁强县）. Their confluence is in Mianxian County（勉县）and named the Mianshui River(沔水）. It always goes southeastward , when it passes through Hanzhong City, it begins to be named the Hanjiang River.
The section from the headwater to Danjiangkou county level city Hubei Province（湖北丹江口市）is upstream ,it's about 925 kilometers long; The section from Danjiangkou to Zhongxiang county level cityJingmen City(荆门市钟祥市）is midstream ,it's about 270 kilometers long; the section from Zhongxiang to the estuary is downstream, it's about 328 kilometers long.
It passes through some important cities: Hanzhong City, the biggest city in southern Shaanxi. Liubang(刘邦），the first emperor of West Han Dynasty, did many great things here; Zhangqian(张骞），who was the one of the greatest tourists in the world and as known the finder of Xinjiang , his hometown was here. Shiyan City（十堰市）, is very famous for its automotive industry and the seat of China's Second Steam. Danjiangkou , is famous for its beauty spots : Wudang Mountain,（武当山）one of the most important mountains of Taoism; Danjiangkou Reservoir , an important reservoir in Center China. Xiangyang City（襄阳市）, a very famous city in the ancient history of China, there were many significant military incidents took place here, especially, in Three Kingdoms Period and the end of South Song Dynasty . Wuhan, witch is the biggest city in Center China and the provincial capital of Hubei,is the confluence of the Hanjiang River and the Yangtze River, Hanjiang River flows into the Yangtze River here. Exactly, in Hankou District （汉口区），the meaning of Hankou is the estuary of the Hanjiang River.

There's a big freshwater lake which is named Dongting Lake between Hubei and Hunan .It's located in the northeast of Hunan Province and the second largest freshwater lake in China, flows into Yangtze River in Yueyang City Hunan province(岳阳市）. There're two main tributaries of the Yangtze River flow into the lake: Xiangjiang River （湘江）and Yuanjiang River（沅江）.
Jiujiang City（九江市), the second largest city in Jiangxi Province; Anqing City,（安庆市），was the provincial capital of Anhui province for a long time before 1960s. The center of the two both cities are very near of Yangtze River. Hukou County（湖口县）, the estuary of Poyanghu Lake is located in the county. That's why it's named. Poyanghu Lake, （鄱阳湖）the largest freshwater lake in China. Ganjiang River（赣江）flows into the lake, which is also the one of the main tributaries of the Yangtze River. From this section,there isn't any main tributary of over 300 kilometers .Chaohu Lake （巢湖）, which is also a famous freshwater lake, is also near of the Yangtze River. Hefei City（合肥市）, the provincial capital of Anhui, is in the north of the lake.
Nanjing City, is a famous city of travel. Because it was the national capital of many dynasties in the ancient history of China.the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge is also very famous in China. Taihu Lake（太湖）, the second largest freshwater lake in China, is located between Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province,Wuxi and Suzhou, the two both big cities are located in the north bank of the lake.
Of course, Shanghai is the final station of the traveling of Yangtze River. Everybody knows that it's the biggest city in China.
The estuary of the Yangtze River is in the area between Qidong （启东）County Level City Jiangsu Province and Pudong District Shanghai City. There's a big island in the middle of this area. It's named Chongming Island, （崇明岛）the third biggest island in China.

The Minjiang River （in Sichuan ）（岷江）is one of the main tributaries of Yangtze River, it's1279 kilometers long it flows into the Yangtze River in Yibin City. When it passes through Chongqing City, the biggest city of Southeast China, there're two main tributaries flow into the Yangtze River.the Jialingjiang River, （嘉陵江），its estuary is in the north bank of the Yangtze River, it's1345 kilometers long; another main tributary is the Wujiang River(乌江）, its estuary is in the south bank of the Yangtze River, it's1037 kilometers long.After throughs the area of the Three Gorges , it goes eastward .
Yichang City, （宜昌市）as a famous city of power station, has two big hydropower stations: Three Gorges Hydropower Station and Gezhouba （葛洲坝）Hydropower Station. You should know that Three Gorges Hydropower Station is the biggest power station in China.Wuhan City（武汉）,the biggest city in Mid-China, is the provincial capital of Hubei. Hanjiang River（汉江）, the longest tributary of Yangtze River, its estuary is in Wuhan City, it's1577 kilometers long.Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge,is the first Yangtze River bridge in China.

It has two headwaters: one of them is called Tuotuohe River(沱沱河）,it goes eastward , then , a small river flows into it, it begins to be named Tongtianhe River（通天河）；it continues to go eastward , when it throughs Yushu County, （玉树县）which is an important city of southern Qinghai, meets another headwater, which is named Qumar River（楚玛尔河）. Then, the two headwaters flow together in Yushu County. From the confluence between them, it begins to be named Jinshajiang River it changes its direction and goes southward . The dividing line between Sichuan and Tibet is Jinshajiang River, Tibet is in the west and Sichuan is in the east. When it throughs someplace near of Lijiang City Yunnan Province （云南省丽江市）, it has a big cove , if you look for it in the map, it just like the letter "W". When it throughs someplace near of Panzhihua City Sichuan Province （四川省攀枝花市）, which is a famous city of iron and steel industry, the direction is changed again. It goes northeastward . When it throughs Yibin City Sichuan Province （四川省宜宾市）, it begins to be called Changjiang River. So you should know that Jinshajiang River is a part of upstream of Yangtze River. The length of Jinshajiang River is 2316 kilometers . Yalongjiang River,the longest tributary of Jinshajiang River, which is also the second longest tributary of Yangtze River, flows into Jinshajiang River in Panzhihua City. Its length is 1571 kilometers .

Yangtze River is the longest river in China, everybody knows that. But do you know? It's also the longest river in Asia. And the third longest river in the world. That's no doubt. Its length is 6397 kilometers. It originates from Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Exactly, its headwater is located in Bayan Har Mountains Qinghai Province.It throughs 11 provincial administrative region: Qinghai Province, Tibet,Yunnan Province, Sichuan Province, Chongqing City,Hubei Province, Hunan Province,Jiangxi Province, Anhui Province,Jiangsu Province and Shanghai City. The section from the headwater to Yichang（宜昌）is the upstream ,its length is 4504 kilometers ; the section from Yichang（宜昌）to Hukou County Jiangxi Province（江西省湖口县）is the midstream ,its length is 955 kilometers ,the section from Hukou County to the estuary is the downstream ,its length is 938 kilometers . It has eight main tributaries of over 700 kilometers. The longest tributary is Hanjiang River （汉江）;The second , is Yalongjiang River（雅砻江）. The length of the two both are over 1500 kilometers .
