Learning a language is one of the most beautiful things we can do.
For as long as I can remember, words—their depth and their music—have taken center stage in my life. I discovered poetry and literature at a young age, and have been an autodidact ever since. I spend much of my time engaged with classic(al) works in the attempt to become polyliteratre—that is, gain the ability to read original texts fluently in multiple languages. Thus far, I've taught myself to read both French and Italian, along with intermediate Latin and Russian. Further on, I plan to tackle German, Ancient Greek, and Persian.
I want to say that this is fully possible for anyone with the proper passion!
As teacher, my primary goal is to lend a helping hand and offer inspiration.
So much of language learning is simply related to motivation and interest. These will carry students much farther than grammar books and drills. Consistency is a necessity, along with a real love for the language. I stand both as an accountability partner and a guide.
I can be relaxed and conversational if you prefer to explore the English language, or I can be detail oriented and rigorous if you have a job interview, a public speech, or a thesis approaching.
One of my favorite ways of engaging with my students is by teaching them how to learn (or at least—what has worked for me).
The heart of any language is its literature.
For English, this means a number of world class authors—Shakespeare, Milton, Hemingway, Bronte, W...5.0
