I have taken at least 40 hours of instruction from Professor Xing Chen and couldn’t be more pleased. He is an exceptional teacher given the following: (1) always punctual, pleasant, kind, and even empathetic, (2) an obvious interest in the student’s success without being lazy (For instance, many teachers will not correct errors in the student’s speech or otherwise because it can be burdensome if there are too many errors. But given my interest to not be complimented but instead corrected, which I made clear is most important to me, this professor is always clearly correcting my errors.), (3) regular availability (4) English that is strong enough to explain or understand matters that I don’t know how to begin to express in Chinese, allowing him to understand me and me to understand him when English is required. I look forward to continuing and believe all new students will be impressed.

My lessons with XingChen 老师 are always both challenging and fun. Every time he has some major grammar points and exercises prepared beforehand so that we can go through them together. It is definitely very useful to repeat the new structures that I learn, and alongside I get some new handy vocab too! On top of that, there is always some time for a little chat to practice colloquial and day-to-day words and sentences. Highly recommended!

First lesson. XingChen seems very friendly, approachable and understood my needs. I think he will be a very suitable teacher for me.

Alex has proven to be one of the best italki teachers I've had. He goes above and beyond for his student and is highly accommodating. Our sessions are never interrupted by faulty internet connection even though we are on opposite sides of the world. Despite my difficulty with pronunciation at times, he continues to maintain an incredible amount of patience. He always sends material for class ahead of time and tries to find extra materials that I request. I've had over 100 lessons with Alex for the course of 6 months and I can confidently speak at a basic level without frustration. I can also read short stories and guess the meaning of some complicated characters given his lectures on radicals. I without hesitation would recommend Alex as your Chinese tutor on italki. 谢谢老师！
