I’ve studied with a lot of language teachers on italki and in person, and Soongjae is by far the best! Here are some reasons why he's such an amazing teacher: 1) He’s very friendly and easy to talk with, and talking with Soongjae is like talking with an old friend, 2) He is very encouraging and patient, and I never feel uncomfortable making mistakes. 3) He makes audio recordings for you! When we study a reading together, I ask Soongjae to make audio recordings that I add to my Anki flashcards. 4) He is flexible and adapts the lesson to your preferred materials and style. 5) He encourages you to do as much speaking as possible, which is great for your learning. I could go on and on—there are so many reasons Soongjae is the best!

As an overseas diaspora member, I’m grateful to be repairing my language skills thanks to 숭재 님. He stands out from many other tutors I’ve learned with, and I recommend him highly for anyone wanting to learn 한국어. Not only is he patient and upbeat, but he is diligent about correcting odd mistakes in the moment. Imitation learning is critical for learning any language to develop a good sound and accent when speaking. Soongjae is very well-spoken with a good rhythm, cadence, and feeling to his speech. He teaches both the proper way to speak as well as good expressions for being more relatable, and has provided a lot of insight into how to ask sensitive questions or approach difficult subjects. He also speaks English extremely well and is able to give quite detailed explanation about the subtle differences in tone when saying things in different ways! Thanks to his teaching I have noticed significant improvement in my understanding and speaking ability. Get on his schedule if you can!
