I'm originally from the United States, where I lived in many different places, from Honolulu to New Hampshire; now I live in Switzerland with my family. I have degrees in English literature and education. I've been a teacher, an editor, and a book designer. My writing has been published in magazines and online journals, and my first book will be published in 2024.
After I moved to Switzerland, and had to work hard to learn languages myself, I became interested in helping other people who want to learn my native language. I earned my CELTA certificate in 2020, and since then I've been teaching English, mostly online. I also work part-time with adults with developmental disabilities.教学经验
Every student is different, so first we have a conversation for me to find out more about you and your needs and abilities. Then I suggest ways to help you meet your learning goals, and we work on them together. I help you with my knowledge and experience, but I also expect to learn a lot from you.
The art of correction is most important. I want to help you become aware of your mistakes and actively correct them yourself. I won't make you feel guilty or stupid for making mistakes. Shame is an obstacle to learning.
Instead, I aim to help students become more active and confident through their English learning. Witnessing this growth is a joy and a privilege.我提供的课程和我的教学风格
At the moment, I am only teaching "Book Talk" lessons. We decide on a book, you read in between, then we talk about what you read, and use the discussion to improve your language skills.
A "Conversation Practice" lesson may be booked as the first lesson only.
I do not teach absolute beginners or children under 10. Students should be at least A2 level. I do not accept package bookings from new students; please book a single lesson first.
My goal is to make you a more confident and independent learner, with the skills you need to move forward into the English-speaking world. I hope to talk to you soon!我的教学资料

Another great lesson! We discussed my writing assignment from the last class and an article by Louise May Aloctt. As always, Lory guided me to understand the literature better, and corrected my language mistakes. I also really appreciated that Lory recommend many amazing articles and authors. Looking forward to another lesson!

Teacher Lory is knowledgable and patient. I can tell she has much teaching experience with students from different countries. She catches my mistakes in our conversations and correct them with easy explanations/examples. In each lesson, I learn a lot from her.

Had another great lesson with Lory to discuss a short article - Positive Obsession. I always enjoy talking about books in Lory's lessons. And we also did some very useful grammar exercises today. Thanks and looking forward to taking more Book Talk lessons this year!
