Hello! I’m Leon, a Chinese lecturer at a university in the United States. I teach both Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese (Taigi), and I enjoy helping students build real communication skills while exploring culture. I have experience teaching learners of different levels and backgrounds, and I understand the challenges of learning a new language. My goal is to make learning clear, practical, and enjoyable. As a teacher, I am patient, supportive, and goal-oriented. I believe that every student learns differently, so I always adapt my teaching based on your needs, level, and interests. I create a comfortable learning environment where you can feel confident speaking and making mistakes. My goal is to help you build real communication skills step by step, not just memorize vocabulary or grammar. Whether you are shy about speaking or want to improve fluency, I will guide you at your own pace and help you gain confidence. My lessons are personalized, practical, and engaging. I design each class based on your goals, whether you want to improve conversation skills, conduct research, or better understand Taiwanese culture. I focus on real-life communication, helping you use natural expressions with confidence. You’ll get plenty of speaking and listening practice, along with clear explanations to support your learning. I've taken a few lessons with this teacher now and I always really enjoy them. He comes prepared with materials and gives me thorough notes after class so that I can just focus on speaking during class. Very patient and helpful, giving me the opportunity to try to find the right words but also stepping in to help when I need it.

I just had my very first lesson in Taiwanese Hokkien with this very encouraging & fun teacher. This language has been on my mind on & off for around 20 years, but I've never got very far because the lack of established study resources & available teachers was demotivating. Well, today's introduction was very organised & systematic, but it has also left me cheerful & hopeful that I will actually see results after only dreaming about speaking Hokkien for so long. I could also wholeheartedly recommend this teacher for Mandarin, if that's what you're looking for 😊

I was very impressed with the lesson and format presented. It’s certainly difficult to learn a new language but the lesson was engaging. I’m trying to brush up on mandarin while learning Taiwanese and this format is perfect. Leo is professional and encouraging! I feel like no time is wasted in class and it’s very efficient.
