A linguist by training, a coach by profession, and a traveler by heart across cultures, careers, and mental spaces. I speak 5 languages, have lived in 8 countries, and traveled to 30+. I spent 6 years in linguistics research, focusing on phonetics and neurolinguistics; my first language is Mandarin and I grew up monolingual, but English is now my main language, and I learned Cantonese, Russian, and German from scratch as an adult.
Language teaching is part of my coaching work on self-empowerment. Learning a language is one of the most empowering things you can do for yourself 🧡

•I am patient and encouraging, as I am a long-time language learner myself and put myself into my students' shoes. I ask lots of questions and want you to speak more than me in the lessons :) I believe in your unique power and competence, and I help you discover your own approach and motivation!
•I have a holistic approach to language and culture - there are many links between languages, and language is never isolated from culture. Therefore I use scientific principles in linguistics and intercultural communication that are applicable way beyond just Chinese/English.

•My lessons are integrated with coaching (asking questions and guiding you to the answers yourself, instead of giving them up front), culture topics (life abroad, global mindset), and personal development (let language learning be part of your self-empowerment journey).
•Many lessons for beginners are with a structured program with textbooks, and many lessons for intermediate/advanced learners are with conversations and native materials based on personal needs and interests.
•You will get your tailor-made lesson plans, wordlists, flashcards, homework (and music playlists!).

硕士 - NeurolinguisticsErasmus Mundus scholar. Study program was coordinated by University of Groningen (Netherlands), while involving semesters at University of Eastern Finland and University of Potsdam (Germany), each for half a year. The last semester of the program was for internship/thesis, and I chose to spend my time at Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany. The degree awarded was Master of Science.

学士 - Linguistics and computingCoursework mainly involves general linguistics and Chinese linguistics; also took courses in translation and interpreting (Chinese-English), corporate and media communication, and cultural studies. I can’t recommend Jin highly enough! She puts 100% effort into her lessons and I have benefitted so much as a result. I originally approached Jin for some extra support with Chinese knowledge and since then I think my Chinese and my confidence in speaking it has dramatically increased. If you are looking for a teacher that can provide enjoyable lessons, gives you constructive feedback, tailors the lesson to your learning style and level, goes beyond the textbook and reliable, then you have found her here.

Very happy with the Cantonese lessons from Jin. Provides good class-material to be used during the lessons. She is very patient, for exampling when checking my pronunciation. Happy with the Google Sheet provided with the words/sentences she has taught me.

It's so rare to find a teacher who is so knowledgeable in Chinese linguistics AND so fun to talk to. Jin is a very supportive and patient teacher. She uses a variety of teaching materials to make her lessons fun and enjoyable. I'd rate her lessons 10 stars if I could.

Jin is an exceptional teacher. She is the full package if you're looking for someone to establish friendly rapport with, without getting too personal. She speaks clearly, slowly and provides ample talking time. She takes your interests into consideration and she makes you feel at ease even if you are completely out of your comfort zone. Her instructions are to the point. Her resources are credible and the lesson plan is well-thought out. It was a great privilege!
