I grew up in Iowa, and I now live in California. My college degrees are in Mechanical Engineering, and Slavic Literature. I work as an engineer, but I have lots of interests outside of work: theatre, literature (novels, poetry, essays), film, TV, and sports.
I also love to travel. In the last year, I've spent time in Australia, Switzerland, Germany, China, and Taiwan. I also speak Russian at intermediate level, and I took Mandarin in high school.
Fun fact: I was on a jump rope team in Iowa!
教学经验
As a teacher, I am focused on the needs of the student, and guiding students to reach their language-learning goals. I am comfortable discussing whatever topics the student is interested in.
It's exciting for me when students come to new realizations or make new connections in their mind. That "a-ha!" moment is so wonderful, and my goal is to inspire more of those moments for students.
我提供的课程和我的教学风格
Most of my teaching experience is with intermediate or advanced students of English. Lessons are typically conversational, but I'm also excited to include formal exercises, such as vocabulary or grammar practice. I'm excited to engage with students on advanced topics, such as making connections with new vocabulary through etymology.
I'm also excited to teach students through the use of articles or essays on subjects that interest them. For example, if you're interested in Civil War history, then perhaps I would find an article on Abraham Lincoln, and we can use that article as a basis to learn new vocabulary and grammar.
