I am an American ESL teacher, tutor, and comic artist. I have been a teacher since 2009. I taught public speaking and worked with special needs children before teaching English as a second language. I have lived in USA, South Korea, Spain, and Canada (where I currently live). I have been an italki tutor since 2017.
I am a huge movie nerd and I enjoy reading, traveling, and bicycling. I try to keep up with current affairs and politics as well - while maintaining my sanity. I love exchanging information about culture and answering questions about language. Teach me about your culture too!教学经验
I am a very open and flexible teacher. I give grammar and pronunciation corrections as we go. Like most teachers on here, I focus on teaching through conversation. We will get to know each other so it becomes more personal as we go.
I have collected many online materials and resources that I like to use in class, but it's really up to you. If you have stuff you want to focus on, do not hesitate to share it and we can co-create the class together.

Practice makes perfect. I start every class with a loose warm-up. I use a lot of short videos (usually from YouTube) and articles that cover a lot of different topics (usually current events). These are used as a springboard into conversation, vocabulary expansion, and listening practice.我的教学资料

What I admire about these lessons is that Jonathan always tries to keep you in the context of the words, encourages you to use the new vocabulary from our video. So his examples and prompts to use these, helped me memorize a lot of target words.
Additionally, by answering a lot of my confusing and sometimes strange questions, he helped me to figure out some moments.
I definitely recommend learning with Jonathan because his lessons are warm, positive, helpful, and easy-going. Every time after these classes I feel so excited and motivated!
