Another great lesson! I would have never believed learning English can be such an enjoyable experience. James is a wonderful teacher. He is kind and patient, encouraging and supportive. He has a great sense of humour and profound insights, and it is always a pleasure to discuss short stories with him. It does not even feel like learning, but I gain so much confidence when speaking English.

I guess I’ll never stop being surprised by how much my conversational skills have improved thanks to James. Just yesterday, we had visitors from abroad at work. I greeted them at the gate, and as I chatted with them on the way to the office, I realised how unusual an experience this actually is for me. Because before I started taking lessons with James, I would have been completely stressed out by a meeting like that —I would have been afraid that I wouldn’t understand them, that I wouldn’t know how to answer their questions, let alone explain our workflow or even ask them if they’d like some coffee. Now, meeting foreign guests and having casual conversations with them is a truly enjoyable experience for me. And it’s all thanks to James’s incredible patience, kindness, enthusiasm and encouragement.

James turned my learning experience around. Not only did learning English through literature advance my language skills, it also gave me an opportunity to switch perspectives, jump into someone else's shoes, and absorb experiences I'd never have a chance to go through in real life.

Great informal tutoring class with James! He is calm, caring, and patient. He asked me about my experience of learning English and it was nice to ask him any questions that I wanted to ask him (good for informal tutoring class). We've talked about places to visit in Scotland, countries that I want to visit, my hobbies and interests, reading, music, videogames and other things. He didn't interrupt me and he was listening to me carefully. He is a nice person to have a conversation with and a good teacher with a good personality! It was nice to meet him for today. It's sad that the class ended but I hope to have another class with him soon! It was nice to meet him for today!

James has been tutoring our daughter weekly for 1.5 hours for a couple of years.
