Hello, my name is Yu Zhe, and I am a native Mandarin speaker who has been teaching Chinese for 12 years. During this time, I have also been a translator (3 years), and a tour guide (1 year).
Qualifications:
Graduate of National Taipei University (Majored in Applied Linguistics and Foreign Languages)
Certified through the Taiwan Ministry of Education
Teacher for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Fluent in English, French, and mother tongue of Mandarin
History of high-profile teaching (CEO’s, Diplomats, Foreign Officials)教学经验
I am very passionate about both learning and teaching language. I put forward a unique classroom experience to my students with a multifaceted approach that covers the very same techniques I have used to vastly expand my own language abilities. I speak Chinese at an advanced level and have had many different Mandarin tutors in my life, both in the USA and Taiwan. Yu Zhe is an exceptionally skilled teacher. He wastes no time during lessons, attends to student needs always, remembers past discussions and lesson content, and is very good at balancing between having a conversation and correcting your mistakes. He is efficient and thorough. To anyone looking to take their Mandarin to the next level, I would gladly recommend Yu Zhe!

Been learning with Yu Zhe for 2.5 years now and it's impossible to comprehend how far I've come in my Mandarin! Going from incoherently speaking small sentences to having full conversations for an hour is an incredible feat only possible with an experienced and caring teacher. I'll be back in 2026 for more lessons (and you should, too!).

This was my 18th(!) hour-long lesson with Yu Zhe, and I've already scheduled two dozen more. (I've been doing three lessons per week so I can hopefully impress my in-laws when we them visit this summer.) Conversations with Yu Zhe are great because it's like chatting with a friend (a friend who speaks at exactly the right speed, doesn't mind repeating things, and knows how to explain things really well and really clearly)!

Yu Zhe is one of the best Chinese teachers I've had -- he's always prepared for class, is willing to tailor the class to your interests and needs, and is extremely knowledgeable about various topics (including history and culture).
