When I let my tongue rest softly against the roof of my mouth, the energy seems to settle down into the hara—around the second chakra.
Since then, I’ve quietly let myself rest there.
Being there, things inside me keep shifting, gently, in a kind of helix, like sunlight dancing on water.
The hara has always been an important place in Japan.
Its warmth lives quietly within the Japanese language, too.
It feels a bit like a sun quietly shining from within.
It’s there in everyone.
It warms without asking anything of us.
I imagine meeting people from that place.
Sitting here quietly, I let myself lean a little on that warmth, and see where it takes us.

As someone who shares the Japanese, I want to keep listening closely to each learner’s dedication.
Beyond the time we share through this window, each person is walking their own quiet inner path.
I hope to sit beside that unseen time,
and together, gently cultivate a kind of shared field — a calm presence that holds us both.
Through meditation, I’ve come to feel that this inner work is one of humanity’s most precious things,
something meant to ripen slowly within us.
And somehow, I trust that the universe remembers these things.
I keep asking myself how I choose to sit here, how I choose to be.
Reflecting, again and again,
just letting us grow together, quietly.

When I share Japanese, I draw freely from my experiences—pitch accent, conversation practice, grammar, and reflections on spirituality.
I also focus quietly on nurturing the unique form each learner carries.
I see this as important because your lives continue beyond our lessons.
I pay attention to the part of you that is truly learning, and together, we shine a light on how it wants to grow.
I spend time on that quietly. I enjoy the careful touches—the follow-ups, the guidance.
When learners open their drawers of potential for learning and share freely, it enriches their journey, and allows us to feel the learning unfold together, gently, moment by moment.

あんり先生 and I have been working together for about a year now. In our lessons we talk about various topics from our daily lives, sometimes going on outdoor walks in Japan or working from manga, textbooks and videos. It is always a super fun part of my day and the difference in my Japanese skills are quite tangible.

Thank you Anri sensei for another great lesson today! We’ve had countless interesting classes and today, sensei had some innovative idea that by watching a video together, she simultaneously went through some useful phrases that I was never aware of by watching dramas or Japanese TV shows. It’s a great method that I would recommend to everyone who is keen to improve their daily usage of Japanese phrases.

Anri is an engaging conversation partner and a very knowledgeable teacher. We keep our conversations loosely structured, often prompted by something that we did, saw, or read in our personal lives. This format lets us ask questions that introduce me to new vocabulary and information about Japanese culture in every lesson. Anri lets me stop and ask about unfamiliar words or grammar. She often catches and corrects mistakes I make in grammar, pitch accent pronunciation, and natural-sounding speech. She also records our conversations so that I can review it. I have felt my comprehension and confidence in spoken Japanese and my knowledge of Japan gradually increase through Anri's lessons.

As a complete beginner I appreciated that Anri started from the foundations of Japanese language - sounds, pronunciation and the intention behind them. She embeds Japanese culture, values and traditions into language learning. Anri was willing to customise the lessons to suit my needs and it felt like a shared exploration rather than a typical lesson. I'm looking forward to continuing.
