Anri has been my Japanese pronunciation teacher once a week for about 9 months. I signed up because I wanted to be able to hear and speak with the pitch accent. I can say that because of Anri, I have gone from being completely tone deaf on the pitch accent, to hearing it reliably with native Japanese media, and hearing my mistakes when speaking. I told Anri I wanted a perfect pitch accent, and she’s the most detailed and fun teacher I’ve ever had in any subject. If I make even the slightest tiniest mistake in pitch accent when speaking, Anri gently and joyfully corrects me. She has this calm and gentle presence that softens the corrections. I have tried other teachers for pitch accent and they only correct me some of the time. Anri corrects every single tiny fault. I couldn’t ask for a better teacher. Thank you Anri!

Another very interesting lesson with Anri. She introduced Shinto and Buddhism culture, shrine and temple, and most importantly knowledge about her hometown to me. I enjoyed the lesson, and learned both Japanese language and its culture. I look forward to an online walk session when the weather gets better.

As a complete beginner I appreciated that Anri started from the foundations of Japanese language - sounds, pronunciation and the intention behind them. She embeds Japanese culture, values and traditions into language learning. Anri was willing to customise the lessons to suit my needs and it felt like a shared exploration rather than a typical lesson. I'm looking forward to continuing.

Anri is an excellent teacher; she is very knowledgeable and warm-hearted, and eager to share both the language and culture of Japan. Anri-sensei created a relaxing environment for the class. This was also the first time I was formally exposed to Japanese pitch accent, so it was a bit of an eye-opening experience. I look forward to having more classes with Anri-sensei.
