I was born in the United States and lived there for most of my life. I grew up in Louisiana but also lived in Washington, DC, and Pittsburgh, PA. During my third year of college, I did an exchange program in Tokyo, Japan for a year. For most of my career, I worked as a software engineer. I moved to Brazil in 2012 to be with my husband. I completed a 120-hour TEFL certification from the University of Toronto in November of 2020. I have practiced Aikido, a Japanese martial art, for more than 20 years. I enjoy cooking and spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy reading history, neuroscience, and science fiction books.教学经验
My first experience as a teacher was in my martial arts club in Pittsburgh. I taught for 10 years. Though this seems quite different from teaching a language, it was, in fact, excellent preparation for my career as an English teacher. Learning correct pronunciation involves learning unfamiliar movements. It is much more a physical skill than an academic exercise. To achieve fluency in speaking, one cannot carefully think about each word or phrase --- words and phrases must be automatic. To learn to speak automatically, one must practice regularly and diligently. I prefer to correct a student's mistakes immediately so that s/he is more likely to remember the correct usage. 我提供的课程和我的教学风格
In my experience, many students were never taught the basic sounds of English. For this reason, I always include phonics exercises as part of every class. When teaching grammar, I focus on the meaning of a particular construction rather than just how to make it. It is important for students to do exercises that require them to choose between more than one possible grammatical construction. This replicates real life, where one must choose the construction that will communicate the correct meaning.我的教学资料

It was my first experience with a private english class. It was so fun! Christine was amazing.
