Hi there, my name is Laurent, and I’m a native Chinese speaker from Nanjing, mainland China. For the moment, I’m living in Zhenjiang, which is a small city next to Nanjing. In my spare time, I usually go for a run. I’m also taking Chinese Calligraphy lessons, which I find really enjoyable. In my opinion beautiful Chinese calligraphy not only appeals to one’s mind, but also impacts one on a deep emotional level. I’m really keen on mountain-climbing as well. The image I use for my avatar is a photo I took on a climbing trip to Mount Huang. Unfortunately, due to my work, I rarely have the chance to indulge in this hobby. I’m teaching English at a language school. I’ve also taught two Canadians Chinese for a couple of months. I’m offering informal Chinese tutoring. I can assist you in improving your level of Chinese Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. My conversational lessons can help you to improve your fluency in colloquial Chinese. If you want to focus on Pinyin, grammatical rules or HSK preparation, we can do that as well. I’ve got a large collection of materials that my students can choose from. We can also utilize materials that you already have and are interested to continue studying. Please let me know what exactly your aims are and together we can negotiate a plan of study that will enable you to reach your Chinese language acquisition goals.

I really enjoyed the lesson. Conversations with Laurent are always very comfortable. He writes notes during the lesson, that are very helpful for later review. The whole sentences are the most useful, because after lesson I can still remember how to use new words and in which context I’ve heard them. Besides that, the quality of sound is really good, that is particularly important for conversation classes, and I had no problems to understand what he says.

I've been studying Mandarin with Laurent on italki for about two months and have made steady progress. He explains grammar points and vocabulary clearly, without overwhelming me, and always prepares well-structured lessons tailored to my goals.
