Mika

In this conversational Japanese lesson we spoke about Golden Week in Japan and then about the Northern Lights which have been very visible in the skies recently. For some reason, I hadn't up to now realised that the Japanese word was オーロラ, so thanks to Mika 先生　for that information ! We also spoke about the pronunciation of various words which sound similar but have different meanings (e.g. words using a long vowel such as ojisan and ojiisan). Unfortunately while I know the difference between the words and can recognize them when written down, I sometimes still struggle to recognize the differences when hearing them in real Japanese conversation - so as the saying goes "practice makes perfect" ! As always, an informative, interesting and fun lesson ! Mika 先生、ありがとうございました。

In this Japanese conversational lesson, given Kodomo no Hi was the next day, we spoke about koinobori and childrens day itself. We also spoke about my potential travel plans for Japan this year, discussing prefectures I might visit. Thanks to Mika 先生 for correcting my use of to, do, fu and ken when referring to said prefectures ! We also spoke about a video I'd recently watched about a Japanese bus that had two private rooms - definitely not something I've ever seen in my country ! A very topical, interesting and fun lesson ! Mika 先生、ありがとうございました。

In this Japanese conversational lesson, amongst other topics we spoke about the current weakness of the Japanese yen and how prices and exchange rates compare to last year. We then went on to speak about Golden Week in Japan, and we also had a discussion about the lengthening days as we approach the summer solstice. A varied and as always interesting lesson !
