Why do students stay with me for years— often 350+ lessons? Because I transform passive knowledge into fluent speech with a method refined over 40+ years of teaching.
My qualifications include Cambridge C2 Proficiency (Grade A), Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test (3 modules; Band 4, top grades) , 6 postgraduate diplomas in English Teaching Methodology, Educational Psychology, Neuropsychopedagogy, Psychoanalysis, CBT, Neuroscience, plus an ongoing BS in Speech Therapy.
My lessons reflect decades of experience; the methodology follows a defined, tried-and-tested path, so that you are not used as a guinea pig (a trial subject) for unproven ideas. My students love their lessons —see the feedback.教学经验
I’ve taught since 1984 and studied French (C1), German (B1), and Italian. This means I understand both sides of the journey. I combine trusted Oxford and Cambridge techniques with my active reconstruction methodology. Shaped by psychological principles of activation, this method is uniquely adapted to one-on-one learning. It doesn’t rely on passive study but activates your skills through speaking, revealing its full power as you progress. This approach builds lasting, real-world fluency.

Proficiency Translation Certificate CEFR 2 - Cambridge University UK - 1989This was an optional, additional part of the Cambridge Proficiency exam; it awarded an additional certificate in Translation from and into English (Portuguese<>English). It involved translating C2 level texts in English and Portuguese without recourse to dictionaries. Different language pairs were offered each year. Due to an utter lack of candidates for this additional part of the Proficiency exam, the translation exam was discontinued shortly after the turn of the millennium.

A Big Milestone in My English Journey – 425 Hours with Marco
Today marks a very special milestone in my English journey.
Over the past 23 months, Marco and I have spent 425 hours together on italki. When I started, my level was around B1. Now, I am approaching C1 — and the transformation has been real and measurable.
What makes me most proud is not just the time invested, but the results I can clearly feel in my daily life. Recently, I was able to watch Moneyball on Netflix comfortably, and I joined Zoom calls with international classmates effortlessly. I still remember how much I struggled to understand during my class in San Diego in 2021. The difference today is huge.
Marco has not only helped me improve my vocabulary and grammar, but also my confidence, fluency, and ability to think in English.
