Hugo E. Martín

I’ve been having classes with Hugo now for almost a year. I really enjoy our classes and the structure. It usually starts with some conversation, exercises and lastly we go over vocabulary and mistakes. He is currently helping me prepare for the DELE C1. Definitely recommend as a teacher.

As a PhD student from the University of Cambridge, my expectations (regarding the methods of teaching, the material employed, and the interaction with the teacher) are usually quite high when I start learning a new language. Hugo not only lift up to these expectations, but, at times, exceeded them. I started Spanish with no knowledge of the language whatsoever and, after only 10 classes, I was able to both write my first short texts and offer full-fledged answers to his questions. Apart from that, every class feels more like a meeting with a good friend, which undoubtedly changes the whole experience for the better. Needless to say at this point, I wholeheartedly recommend Hugo as a Spanish teacher!

I had never spoken Spanish before my first lesson with Hugo, so I was quite nervous about my ability to speak and keep a conversation going. Hugo was excellent at asking questions and guiding the conversation so that I kept talking, even when I struggled to find the words. He is very patient and lets you express yourself without interrupting too much, which makes it much easier to build confidence even when you’re making mistakes. Our lessons are roughly a 60/40 split between conversation and exercises, which I find a really good balance. After the first lesson I immediately booked another block of classes, and I can already see an improvement in my speaking. Hugo often suggests topics to discuss, but many times the conversation just flows naturally and we end up talking about whatever comes to mind. I would definitely recommend Hugo if you want a supportive teacher who helps you build confidence speaking Spanish.

The lessons with Hugo are very pleasant. He takes the time and explains clearly. He gives a lot of room for me to practice with speaking during the lesson. He provides exercises to practice grammar in my own time, which he corrects and explains where needed during the lesson. Would recommend!

Hugo is very organized, and provides a lot of helpful resources for learning Spanish!

Hugo was prepared and we had a very productive lesson. His calm demeanor made the lesson flow nicely.
