I have done over 100 lessons with Lydia and even when I reach my desired fluency level probably will never stop. You will not find a better teacher than her. Somehow she always knows exactly where I'm at in my learning and how to push me. She always uses vocabulary and sentence structure within my skill set. She remembers everything so every lesson is perfectly tailored just for me, things I like to discuss, current happenings, pets, food, etc. Somehow she does this for all her students. My world has opened up since learning chinese, I have made chinese friends and attended cultural events and my world is so much better having done so. It's so great being able to have conversations in chinese that I thought I'd never be able to do. None of this would have been possible without Lydia. If you are lucky enough to be her student and work hard she will help you achieve whatever your fluency goal is.

I'm a heritage Chinese speaker, and I started taking lessons to pass on the language to my son. I left China at 4, and my ability to express myself felt largely frozen at child level. And my reading was awful! After over 2 years of regular classes with Lydia, I'm now able to speak to my 3 year old exclusively in Chinese, and read Chinese kids books to him. My adult level vocabulary has massively improved also. I'm able to express myself better and I can listen to some native language podcasts. Lydia has been key to my progress. She's patient, encouraging, and adapts classes to my interests. Despite being a busy working parent, I've managed to stay consistent with lessons for over 2 years because Lydia makes them interesting - and long-term consistency is key to improving your language skills. I've been working with Lydia for almost a year since I downloaded HelloChinese on a whim and started learning basic mandarin. In the first lesson I could barely form simple sentences and my pronunciation was poor. We started from the basics of pinyin, going through initials + finals and mixing in some speaking practice. After making it through pinyin we skipped straight to the HSK2 curriculum. All the lessons have been great so far - I've become a lot more confident in my (rudimentary) speaking abilities and she's mixed in a lot of interesting content about Chinese holidays and culture. In each lesson she writes down all the new vocabulary in a PDF that she sends after which makes it really easy to refer to it later, or turn in to Anki cards. A year later, the content is harder, butI still feel like I'm making steady progress. Her lessons have become an enjoyable part of my weekly routine and I am really thankful for her patience and encouragement in my Chinese learning journey!
