Hi! I am Tako, a native Japanese teacher. I was born in San Francisco and came back to Japan when I was 5. I’ve been living in Hiroshima ever since. I have a degree in English literature and I love studying phonetics. Learning about the unique sounds of each language has been one of my passion.
I have experience learning English, French, and so on. That’s why I understand how language learning can be tough, but also fulfilling. I love that you are interested in learning Japanese and I would love to help you learn Japanese step by step. See you soon in my lesson!
I am a very friendly and patient teacher. I’ve been a language teacher for more than 20 years and I love it! I taught students from one-year-old kids to adults in person. For online lessons, I usually teach students from eight-year-old to adults.
There's nothing like seeing my students getting excited about learning Japanese in my class. It gives me such a sense of accomplishment.
My motto for learning Japanese is to make mistakes without worrying too much and to speak a lot in Japanese. Have fun with it :)
My lesson focus is the conversation mainly. I use the Genki textbook for beginner students at first. This is because I would like you to strengthen the foundation of basic Japanese skills first so that you could use practical Japanese in the future. For the kids' learners, I use traditional Japanese songs, games, and fun activities.

I had a great trial lesson with Tako-san. After learning Japanese when I was younger, I have sadly forgotten almost all of it, but Tako-san was great at correcting me and very patient despite my slow responses and informal tone! Also, 'あの' means 'yes' in Slovak (where I live), so she was patient with me even when I said あの instead of そうです！
