TESOL Certificate - International Open Academy - 2021A TESOL Certificate certifies me to teach English to speakers of other languages. It was a very extensive course of over 120 hours of instruction which was a combination of in-class and online instruction. Although I have had a close relationship with English and teaching for most of my life, it helped me put my teaching goals into action.

ESL IntructorBeing an ESL Instructor for the Saudi Arabian Royal Navy helped me immensely to teach English to foreign nationals. I learned how to adjust to my students comfortability, instead of what is expected in a regular classroom setting in the United States. This was the job that made me realize my passion for teaching. I became invested in my students' progress, and learned how to really understand my students.
2012 - 2014
Interpreter / Cultural AdvisorBeing an Interpreter / Cultural Advisor for Imani Lee really solidified my vision as a Italki Community Tutor. When a student tells me about an aspect of their culture, which would shock most Americans, I can appreciate the practice and begin to understand the deeper meaning behind it. I also can understand how some aspects of American culture may be shocking to the student as well. My experience with the United States Special Forces has helped me understand the benefits of a cultural exchange.
2018 - 2020
Freelance WriterMy experience as a Freelance Writer for an Indian-American publication broadened my understanding of Asia. It also taught me more about the challenges of adjusting to a new culture, or country. It showed me how passionate people are about their roots no matter what country they plan to move to. I hope I can cultivate that in my students who are passionate and take pride in the culture they grew up with. I was able to hone my skills as a writer and to invoke feelings in whoever reads my articles.
2020 - 2021
ESL InstructorMy experience with LingoForMe was demanding, but instilled a great work ethic in me. I was able to work 12 hours a day with no problem. I became skilled with using platforms such as Skype, and Zoom and I taught primarily structured lessons. I gave extensive feedback after every class, and kept a 5-star rating during my whole time there. I left my full-time job at LingoForMe when I was accepted to Italki, and I am more than grateful to be able to provide value to the Italki platform.
