Hi everyone! My name is Purnima and I live in Jacksonville, Florida. I've worked as a university ESL instructor for more than 10 years and I have a Master's degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and have been teaching on italki for three years . I've lived in America for more than four years, and I've also lived in India for 20 years, and in Thailand for 17 years. I teach English and Hindi online and I have students from all different parts of the world. I've taken the TOEIC test and I have a perfect score of 990.
I love Salsa and Bachata dancing, and I am a trained classical Indian dancer. I love travelling and have been to over thirty countries.
I'm a very kind and compassionate teacher and I always put students' needs before mine. I am a very good listener and a problem solver. I love getting to know each student, and finding out about their dreams and goals in life, so I can work around that and help them as much as I can to remain inspired and help them achieve their goals in any way that I can. I respect each student's identity and I appreciate the different personalities of students and the special things that they have to offer as an individual.
I'm a very open-minded teacher and my classes are student-centered. I give students a lot of time in class to share their opinions and ask me questions about the topic being taught. My lesson was enjoyable, as we discussed my baseline knowledge and goals for learning Hindi, and then we immediately started practicing some basic key phrases. At the end of the lesson, we had a roleplay of a first meeting to practice what was taught. Additionally, she did give some recommendations for resources to help supplement my learning outside of lessons. Overall, it was fun, and she was engaging throughout the whole lesson. It was easy to be comfortable even though this was my first Hindi tutoring session ever.

After having quite a few lessons with Purnima, I am continuing to have a better understanding of the Hindi language. While traveling to India I was able to understand and communicate with the people there. I would highly recommend her for people looking to learn.
