Hello, I'm Yi Kuan, a native Chinese and Cantonese speaker with Malay proficiency. With 7+ years of teaching experience and a TEFL certification, I specialize in practical conversational skills through engaging lessons. Passionate about languages and culture, I integrate personal interests like travel and art into teaching. I'm excited to share the joy of language learning with you!
I like to think my students feel completely comfortable to be themselves and make mistakes in my class! Mistakes are important for improvement, so the more the better! Think of me as your language exchange partner! You will have fun learning language with me without the stress of exams or repetitive grammar exercises. I do recommend that you take a trial lesson. I will always make contact with you via message before our first meeting to allow me to prepare a little for our first class. We will then have a chat so I can see what your general level is and find possible topics of interest so we can adjust the class to fit you.

Super interesting topic in Cantonese class today pertaining to work life, travel, and friendships. Teacher Yi Kuan guides the lesson to touch on subjects relevant to my life and therefore vocabulary I would actually use every day. Class with Teacher Yi Kuan continues to increase my confidence in using the language as I was able to successfully converse with a shopkeeper in Cantonese today without feeling nervous, and I felt that I did not need to think too much before the right words came to mind. Learned holiday expressions. Teacher Yi Kuan teaches Cantonese while providing cultural insight. She was a huge help with teaching me expressions to use at my sister’s Chinese Tea ceremony, which I was able to share with my family members. She really goes above and beyond to support my learning.

After an enforced break for a few months it was great to be back. As always Yi Kuan was patient and helpful and it was great to catch up and ease myself back into the routine of learning Malay.
