Yuka

I found Yuka-sensei because of her day-time availability in the U.S. (which is convenient for me, as most native-speaker teachers live in Japan). I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of things that I learned while taking Yuka-sensei's class!!! Within 5 classes, she was able to explain and deepen my understanding of the topic I'm having trouble with. She gave me plenty of explanations and conversation chance to use the grammar in various situations. She also helped me analyze written sentences and verb conjugation. With her lessons, I was able to internalize and incorporate grammar points that I have been unable to articulate. Yuka-sensei is a very skillful, intuitive teacher and I've thoroughly enjoyed my lessons with her. I look forward to taking her classes again in the future!! ゆか先生、ありがとうございました。

Yuka-san is by far the best Japanese teacher. I have also had well over 4000 lessons in various languages on iTalki, and I can tell you that Yuka-san stands out among the 100+ teachers I have experienced as a knowledgeable, committed, conversationally adept, and humorous instructor. I have been studying Japanese for 15 years and lived in Japan for about 4 and I can easily say that Yuka is the best Japnese teacher I've ever had. It can be really hard to find somebody who can teach beyond the intermediate level and it really stalled my learning for a long time. Yuka has a nack for really being able to zero in on your needs and build the lesson to custom fit you. I think this is especially important for the advanced level since you need to learn vocabulary, kanji, etc less and have to focus more on polishing your skills to really sound native and fluent. Yuka has improved my Japanese significanly in this way. Teachers who can teach at this level are extremely rare and I would encourage anybody at any level to learn with Yuka. She pushes you in motivating ways that really get great results.

Yuka and I started what you might all a year-end exam (LOL). I mentioned that I really needed a profound review to check up on everything I have learned in Japanese this past year. The review was not just about old words learned. Each worked that we reviewed was an opportunity to explore these review words in more detail. For example, the word itoko (cousin). I shared stories about my many cousins and their diverse, sometimes crazy lives and professions. It was a lot of fun and I feel I definitely got what I wanted out of this review.
