5年专业老师经验 Hi, I am Shirley. I live in Guangzhou. Mandarin and Cantonese are my daily languages. I also speak English well. I hold a bachelor's degree, majoring Business English. I passed CET-4, CET-6, MET-4, and MET-8 during my university life. After graduation, I worked in a business company which specialized in overseas investment. This experience substantially broadened my international perspective. I enjoyed excellent Chinese cuisine in Vancouver's Chinese community. And I once stood at 80+/F of a high-rise in downtown New York, overlooking Central Park and gazing out at the Empire State Building. I worked as a teacher since 2021 and hold a certificate of English teacher in primary school. I am good at helping kids learn English from level 0. Sometimes I teach Chinese, like Pinyin and Writing. I have carefully studied the YCT and HSK textbooks and the past exam papers in recent decade, and I find them far simpler than Chinese textbooks used in China. I've taken biweekly lessons with Daisy for about 5 months throughout 2026. I had a basic conversational level of Cantonese before, but really wanted to go deeper and get more confident reading and speaking (and focusing on HK specific slang / terms). Daisy is an excellent teacher, not only does she have very detailed and useful materials we review on grammar topics and realistic sentences, she is really good at explaining the nuances of the language, giving interesting tangents and side topics and correcting my pronunciation. My in-laws have noticed that my speaking is better, and I'm noticing I can understand more Cantonese now. I highly highly recommend working with Daisy!!

I've been taking Cantonese lessons with Fafa on italki for some time now, and I can wholeheartedly recommend her to any learner - beginner or advanced. She is incredibly engaging and highly skilled at teaching. One of the things I appreciate most is that she uses Jyutping, which makes pronunciation so much easier to learn, and she also includes the special characters that are unique to spoken Cantonese. This has really helped me to connect with the language as it’s actually used. Fafa is not only knowledgeable about Cantonese itself but she also has a broad understanding of many different topics, so conversations with her are always interesting and fun. She's quick to adapt, easy to talk to, and creates a relaxed learning atmosphere. Her lessons are never dull, and I always leave with more confidence and clarity. Jessica really pushes my language practice to its limits! At the moment we are learning basic sentences and vocabulary and she encourages me to put it to use and try to make new sentences, not just rote repetition. Just when I feel like I’m overloaded, she pulls back and allows me to marinate in what we’ve learned before diving back in and working on conversation again. If you want to move quickly and learn a lot, I highly recommend Jessica!

Wilma is fantastic - I've been working with her a couple years already. I am a native Cantonese speaker born to an immigrant family. I am bilingual but not biliterate. Wilma is great because not only does she know written Chinese, she knows jyutping too which is really what I was looking for in a teacher since my goal is to learn jyutping first. Next, Wilma is very adaptable and mixes up our lessons from vocab, to demo/feedback, to free flow conversation. I think she's fantastic and welcome anyone else to partner with her!
