Today would have been your 90th birthday. I saw that line on someone's personal website. You is the person's mom who passed away 1 year ago. 1. When I saw the line, I thought it is a short form of [If you had not passed away 1 year ago, today would have been your 90th birthday.] Am I right? 2. Instead of that line, how about "Today would be your 90th birthday"? I mean like a short form of [If you lived now, today would be your 90th birthday.] Thank in an advance!

I was very self-conscious about smiling when I first got braces. Whether brace here means dental crown or tank-top ?I thought both make sense.

I'd like to make sure a natural phrase to express the following my situation. I visited a store with my friend lately. I finished my errands soon, but wasn't sure whether my friend wanted to see and purchase something more or not. I asked him what he is looking for. He didn't say clearly and time passed more than 45 minutes there. I was so irritated this situation. I described my friend as below. Is that natural? "He spent chilling out there." I was wondering if you could give me any advises.

Hi, I reckon you language learners must have had an experience that you struggled to seek a perfect word to fit in the meaning of a foreign word or term. Here’s a Chinese phrase I want to find out a suitable word to describe it, it’s the one has been underlined in the picture below. The explanation for it in the picture is 100% wrong, although that picture was posted by a professional teacher on Itaki. However, Its correct meaning should be“a well known idiom, as well as the story behind it”, according to Wiki of Chinese version(the 2nd picture below). I know some interesting English idioms has stories, like “break a leg”, “turn a blind eye”so on. So would you be able to think of a word or term to translate it?
