Is there a technical or legal difference between jail and prison? Is the word jail used outside of the USA? Thanks

I don't think that Tom likes K-music. I think that Tom doesn't like K-music. Which one is correct? Actually, I learned the 1st one is correct. But I have seen English speakers use the 2nd one many times. Thanks in advance!!!

Hi everyone! I’m trying to study Chinese. That is a real challenge for me :) Could you look through my small essay and check the mistakes which I am sure I’ve made. Thanks beforehand! 因为我妈妈今天过生日,所以一家人决定去饭馆。 我们都太高兴,我们要说:生日快乐! 我爸爸荙给一件礼物一很漂亮的手表。 在饭馆过生日不便宜,可是很好吃。

Hi! I’m learning Chinese and my homework is to write a small text. Can you find any mistakes in my text? 今天是我妹妹的生日。 她是服务员,所以她不喜欢过生日在饭馆。 她打算过生日在家里。 我妹妹想请来我和她的朋友做客。 我们的安排有意思。 我们要吃饺子和面条,喝咖啡和茶,跳舞, 还有唱歌。

Those who are looking for a partner to practice English with, let me know in my inbox. We have a group where a British teacher talks with us about random topics to help us become fluent in English. This opportunity is totally free of cost and only for people who are serious in it. Thanks.

Follow the following phrase: I think that's important to understand that is precisely the reason "by which" the President came to this decision. Can I replace "by which" with " for which? Are they the same?

When studying a language in your free time outside of class, which activities give you the most results? The best ROI? (return on investment). - Watching movies or TV shows? - Listening to podcasts? - Reading books? - Reading social media in the target language? - Studying grammar books? - Socializing by using the target language? - Writing to practice output? - Trying to think in the target language? And do you practice "active listening" (100% focus) or "passive listening" (half focused half busy with something else like house chores etc)? For me it is "active listening" to movies & TV shows in my target language. That means 100% focus on listening to the dialogue in the movie or TV show and then quickly glancing down at the subtitles in my first language just so it can give me some context to understand new words. Sometimes I also pause a lot as I go through the movie or TV show, it helps to learn more in detail. But sometimes playing the movie or TV show full speed helps in other ways, building sharper listening skills. If I do "passive listening" (which means half doing the housework and half listening to the podcast/movie etc) I really don't learn much at all, the "ROI" is low for me It would be interesting to hear everyone's thoughts about active & passive listening :)
