大新自己开车，从北京，带妈妈去海南。北京到海南非常远，有2600多公里。有的人会问，为什么不坐飞机呢？坐飞机更快，更容易，更轻松。可是，大新觉得开车更安全。因为那个时候还有新冠疫情。坐飞机的话，妈妈可能生病。大新和妈妈从北京出发，第一天和第二天，每天都要走800到900公里，妈妈很累，后来，他们就走得慢一点儿。每次看见服务区，他们就到服务区休息，带妈妈做一些简单的运动，跟妈妈说话。他们一般在车上吃饭。第三天的晚上，因为下雨了，他们在梧州的一个酒店住了一个晚上。第四天，他们到了徐闻港。因为海南是一个岛，所有从中国大陆到海南的人和车都必须从徐闻港坐渡船到海南。等船的人很多，他们等了两个小时才上船。九十分钟以后，他们到了海口。大新和妈妈是最后下船的，因为妈妈的腿脚不方便。他们在海口又休息了一下才在开车回家，他们的家在三亚的亚龙湾，还要开几个小时的车才能到。终于，在第四天下午五点半左右，大新和妈妈到了海南的家。大新觉得妈妈特别棒，这么远的路，妈妈一直有好心情。终于到家了，大新和妈妈都可以好好休息休息了。

Phrases in English for Language Learners

Quindi: sarebbe facile o diventerebbe veramente complicato avere una relazione con una persona che parla una lingua diversa dalla nostra?
Potrebbe essere difficile litigare?
Diventerebbe complicato spiegarsi meglio?
Ho colto l’occasione…. Oppure potrei dire che “ho preso spunto” da una lezione con Lisa che, come avrete capito, è tedesca e che ha una relazione con un uomo danese, il quale vive in Italia.
Lei ha detto che loro comunicano in inglese, perché il loro livello linguistico è molto alto.
Ma secondo me non è solo un fatto di comunicazione. Subentrerebbe la cultura, intesa come abitudini mentali: quello che è normale per me, non è normale per qualcun altro.
E poi c’è la questione della personalità, come dicevamo nell’intervista: siamo davvero noi stessi quando parliamo un’altra lingua?
Nei miei anni di insegnamento ho avuto molti studenti che volevano imparare l’italiano proprio perché il loro partner è italiano. 
Che gesto d’amore immenso. Imparare la lingua dell’altro per capirlo meglio!
Un antico proverbio italiano dice “moglie e buoi dei paesi tuoi”. Ma in un mondo così fluido, ha ancora senso un proverbio così?
Perché c’entra anche la questione scientifica che parlare una lingua straniera, o più idiomi, sembrerebbe aiutarci a vedere il mondo con occhi diversi. È una questione scientifica non ancora risolta.
Allora ve lo chiedo direttamente: parlare italiano vi fa vedere il mondo da un’altra prospettiva?
Sarebbe possibile per voi avere una relazione con una persona che parla un’altra lingua?
Anche una relazione di amicizia…. Sareste un vero amico – o una vera amica?

안녕하세요, 여러분! 유정쌤이에요. 오늘도 한국어 듣기 연습에 오신 걸 환영합니다. 
오늘은 겨울을 대표하는 단어, "눈"과 한자어 "설(雪)"에 대해 이야기해볼게요. 두 단어의 차이와 함께 다양한 표현도 살펴볼게요.

[눈과 설의 차이]

"눈"은 우리가 아는 하얗고 부드러운 겨울에 나타나는 기상현상을 뜻하고, "설"은 눈의 한자어 표현이에요. 그래서 뉴스나 공식적인 문장에서는 "대설주의보"나 "설경" 같은 단어를 자주 사용해요.

예를 들면:
"이렇게 예쁜 설경 속에서 널 만난 것도 인연이야."
여기서 "설경"은 눈으로 덮인 아름다운 경치를 뜻하죠.

[눈과 설을 활용한 표현들]

눈과 관련된 표현 몇 가지를 소개할게요:
첫눈: 처음 내리는 눈이에요. 여러분 모두 지난 주 첫눈 오던 날 뭘 하셨나요?
눈꽃: 나뭇가지나 창문에 맺힌 얼음 결정처럼, 눈의 아름다움을 표현한 단어예요.

한자어 "설"도 다양하게 활용돼요:
설국(雪國): 눈으로 덮인 세상을 뜻해요. 소설 설국이나 영화 설국열차의 제목에서도 보이죠.
설중매(雪中梅): "눈 속의 매화"라는 뜻으로, 추운 겨울에도 피어나는 강인함과 아름다움을 표현해요.

한국 문화에서는 특히 "첫눈"과 관련된 미신이 재밌는데요. 첫눈이 오는 날 사랑하는 사람과 함께 있으면 사랑이 이루어진다고들 합니다. 여러분도 한국에 오시면 첫눈의 로맨틱한 의미를 꼭 느껴보세요!

눈 vs. 설(雪): Why Koreans Have Two Words for Snow

Tea and the Industrial RevolutionA Cambridge professor says that a change in drinking habits was the reason for the Industrial Revolution in Britain. Anjana Abuja reports

Alan Macfarlane, professor of anthropological science at King’s College, Cambridge has, like other historians, spent decades wrestling with the enigma of the Industrial Revolution. Why did this particular Big Bang – the world-changing birth of industry-happen in Britain? And why did it strike at the end of the 18th century?

Macfarlane compares the puzzle to a combination lock. ‘There are about 20 different factors and all of them need to be present before the revolution can happen,’ he says. For industry to take off, there needs to be the technology and power to drive factories, large urban populations to provide cheap labour, easy transport to move goods around, an affluent middle-class willing to buy mass-produced objects, a market-driven economy and a political system that allows this to happen. While this was the case for England, other nations, such as Japan, the Netherlands and France also met some of these criteria but were not industrialising. All these factors must have been necessary. But not sufficient to cause the revolution, says Macfarlane. ‘After all, Holland had everything except coal while China also had many of these factors. Most historians are convinced there are one or two missing factors that you need to open the lock.’
