まず初めに、ごめんなさいを言います。6話で京都の祇園祭（ぎおんまつり）の話をしていますが、「前祭（まえまつり」と言っているのは、「さきまつり」のまちがいです。京都およびリスナーのみなさん、本当にすみませんでした。間違えた私も悪いけど、知らん顔してウソ教えるハルカちゃんも悪いと思わない？ChatGPTは漢字弱いです。今回もお寺の名前が多いですが、ハルカちゃん、全部ウソ読みました。
さてさて、今回は京都に比べて人気イマイチな奈良のお話です。私は好きなんですけどね。まあどちらも夏に行くには暑すぎて、本当は対決する前に退場してもおかしくない県です。でも、夏ならではの奈良（←発音するとおもしろい！）を紹介しているので、聞いてみてくださいね。

はい、こんにちは。今回はポッドキャストの12回目です。前回から少し日にちが空いてしまいました。私は今月の18日から子宮筋腫の手術のために入院することになり、ポッドキャストを更新できませんでした。手術は無事終わり、今朝退院しました。5月の終わりから大学のクラスも始まるので、準備しなければいけません。桜はもう散って、外は暖かくなってきました。
Hello, this is episode 12 of season 2 of my podcast. It has been a little while since the last time. I have not been able to update the podcast as I have been in hospital since the 18th of this month for an operation for fibroids. The operation went well and I was discharged this morning, and I have to prepare for university classes starting at the end of May. The cherry blossoms have already fallen and it is getting warmer outside.
私は普段、毎日仕事をしています。一週間以上仕事を休んだのは5年ぶりです。最後に仕事を休んだ時は、2018年の春にロサンゼルスに旅行に行った時でした。だけど、ロサンゼルスでは仕事を続けていたので、完全な休みではありませんでした。今回はパソコンやインターネットが使えなかったので、完全な休みです。入院している時は、本を読んだり、携帯アプリのゲームをしたりして、時間を過ごしました。手術は成功しましたが、傷や体調はまだ完全に回復していません。１ヶ月後にもう一度検査をします。
I usually work every day. It has been five years since I have taken more than a week off work. The last time I took time off work was when I travelled to Los Angeles in the spring of 2018. But it wasn't a complete holiday because I continued working in Los Angeles. This time it was a complete holiday because I wasn't able to use a computer or the Internet. When I was in hospital, I spent my time reading books and playing game apps. The operation was a success, but my wounds and condition have not fully recovered yet; I will have another check-up in a month's time.
入院している間に読んだ本は、エマニュエル・トッド(Emmanuel Todd)の本です。エマニュエル・トッドは1951年生まれのフランスの歴史人口学者です。彼は人口、宗教、家族構成などの世界中の歴史のデータを研究して、これからの社会や政治の出来事を正確に予想できることで有名です。私は、第三次世界大戦の可能性について調べていたとき、彼のことを知りました。 学者じゃなくても、歴史や社会については、知識があるに越したことはありません。「越したことはない」とは、「何かは常に一番いいアイデア」という意味です。動詞・名詞・形容詞に使います。たとえば、健康に越したことはありません。

“I think the one invention that has really changed how we live in recent years has to be the smartphone, which really has become an integral part of so many people's lives, as well as an item that most people feel they can’t live without.

I guess the smartphone as we know it today was invented by Apple, and hit the mass market back in about 2007 or 8, which really broke new ground and launched a mobile revolution, quickly becoming the one piece of technology everybody wanted to own.

I think the first way the smartphone changed peoples lives was in how it literally put the internet in everyone's pocket, and completely revolutionised the mobile industry. On top of that, it also put a good camera in our pockets, and made us all aspiring photographers overnight, which also led to a huge rise in the different social media platforms.

I really believe that the smartphone and the apps that go with it changed so much in our lives, even the way people work today, and the way we do business. From posting selfies on facebook and online shopping to work related emails or communication the smartphone really has revolutionised just about everybody's life, from the ordinary joe bloggs to the business bigwigs.
