Maps, Plans and Diagrams: Directions and Location Language | IELTS #067
說明
Level B2 (approx. band 5.5-6.5) · Academic and General Training
Map and plan labelling questions make many learners panic. The speaker says "go past the lake, and it's in the north-east corner", and the learner is still looking for the entrance. Two things cause most mistakes: not knowing the location language, like "opposite" or "adjacent to", and not knowing where you are on the map when the audio starts.
In this episode:
• Orient yourself before the audio
• Position language
• Compass points and corners
• Movement language
• Listening lab
• Language bridge
• Practice
• Self-check questions with answers
Key points:
• know your starting point, north and your landmarks before the audio begins.
• "opposite" means across from, and "adjacent to" means next to.
• find north first, then mark all four sides of the map.
• left and right belong to the walker, so always know which way you are facing.
