專業教師When we discover new information, Spanish often uses:
👉 No sabía que / Creía que / Pensaba que
The tense that follows depends on the time reference:
🔹 Imperfecto (estabas, vivías, eras…) → when the fact is true now
🔹 Pluscuamperfecto (habías ido, había salido…) → when the fact happened before
Example:
— ¡Qué sorpresa! No sabía que estabas aquí.
(You are here now → imperfect)
— ¿Con Lucía? Pensaba que se había ido de vacaciones.
(She left before → pluperfect)
Ayer vi a Marta en la oficina. Yo pensaba que __________ de la empresa.
se ha ido
se había ido
